W Lamb Limited
The DCM Partnership
The design and build construction of phase 1, a new warehouse / production facility for W Lamb Limited, consisting approximately 45,000ft2 of floor space with associated offices and external works.
This was another challenging site with low ground bearing pressures and a river course running from one side to the other. The solution was to cut and fill using Lime Stabilisation techniques, which allowed traditional pad foundations to be installed. These foundations were then able to support a steel framed structure with elevational treatments of a very high standard. Multi-coloured cladding was also installed – including on the roof - in a distraction pattern to break up the mass and meet the planners demanding requirements. The floor slab was placed on the newly engineered fill.
The scheme provides 10% renewable energy via roof mounted Solar Panels connected back into the national grid. This together with the new estate road and infrastructure, a SUDS surface water attenuation system, water conservation measures and a new estate wide sewage treatment plant helped to deliver a highly efficient development which achieved a BREEAM “Very Good” rating.
Best practice noise and dust control, Air Driven Heat Recovery Units, a highly efficient automated lighting scheme, as well as environmental improvements including diverse, native landscape planting, bird boxes and log piles were also used.
This contract is registered under the Considerate Constructors Scheme and the building complies fully with Secure by Design requirements.
